With the recent downturn of the economy and the looming financial woes that substance abuse recovery experts are saying will lead to more drug use, it’s good to know that a fellowship like Families and Friends of Addicts: Nar-Anon has a presence in the community. Nar-Anon is a fellowship, like AA and NA, but is instead dedicated to aiding friends and family members of addicts cope with there loved one’s drug problem. Nar-Anon’s recovery program is an adaptation of the traditional Twelve Steps programs used in Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous. However, Nar-Anon’s versions are referred to as, Nar-Anon’s Twelve Steps, Twelve Traditions, and Twelve Concepts.

In the past, one of Illinois Nar-Anon’s major events was held in Rockford and Winnebago and was known as the SOBER MC Anniversary. SOBER MC is a sober motorcycle club event. Several sober motorcycle clubs still exist in the Illinois area including New Attitudes and Sober Biker United.
