Illinois Nar Anon

With the recent downturn of the economy and the looming financial woes that substance abuse recovery experts are saying will lead to more drug use, it’s good to know that a fellowship like Families and Friends of Addicts: Nar-Anon has a presence in the community.  Nar-Anon is a fellowship, like AA and NA, but is instead dedicated to aiding friends and family members of addicts cope with there loved one’s drug problem.  Nar-Anon’s recovery program is an adaptation of the traditional Twelve Steps programs used in Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous.  However, Nar-Anon’s versions are referred to as, Nar-Anon’s Twelve Steps, Twelve Traditions, and Twelve Concepts.

Throughout the state of Illinois, family members of recovering drug addicts can go to the website:  http://www.usrecovery.info/Nar-Anon/Illinois.htm to find upcoming Illinois Nar-Anon meetings and events.

In the past, one of Illinois Nar-Anon’s major events was held in Rockford and Winnebago and was known as the SOBER MC Anniversary.  SOBER MC is a sober motorcycle club event.  Several sober motorcycle clubs still exist in the Illinois area including New Attitudes and Sober Biker United.  The 2009 events listings aren’t up yet for either group, but to check back to their sites, visit: http://www.soberbikersunited.org and http://www.chicagonewattitudesmc.com/.  The below listed Nar-Anon meetings were collected from: http://nar-anon.org/illinois.htm

I am trying to find a meeting in the Northwest corner of Illinois. Is there a Nar-Anon Fellowship anywhere around the Northwest corner of Illinois?

  • Stewart

My wife and I are regular members of the Naranon group that meets weekly in Homewood, IL. After reviewing your website, you should know that the Naperville, IL meeting has disbanded. You might want to delete this location from your Website. Thank you for all you do.

    Thanks a lot

I would like to attend these meetings. My sister is a raging alcoholic and an addict and I can’t deal with it anymore. I wouldn’t have anything to do with her, if she didn’t have two young children that my mother and I have raised since they were infants. How do I find these meetings and are there any prereqs. that I need to have. I live in Arlington Heights, IL 60005. Thank you for your help. I feel I need to get myself to a meeting as soon as possible before I lose my mind.

      Hi Cammie!
there are meetings all over the country and on the phone. Go to http://www.alanon.org and http://www.alanonphonemeetings.org. You can also go to http://www.naranon.org. At these sites you can enter your location and it will tell you where the nearest meetings are.
Also, I’d like to invite you to consider attending my Four Foundations of Family Recovery course coming up in January. Family members who attend find that it helps them tremendously in their ability to help the addicts and alcoholics they love. You can learn more about the class at http://www.theempowermentcoach.net/4-foundations-of-recovery.html .
You can also give me a call for a free coaching consult to give your recovery a strong start. My number is 786 859 4050.
      All the best,
      Coach Bev

I would like to attend one of these meetings. My mother is a former crack addict, my father is addicted to pot (which my mother also smokes) and my brother is addicted to any type of narcotic pill, preferring Oxy. All of the above meeting areas are to far from me though. I like right outside Peoria, IL in a city called Pekin. Is there any meetings that might come closer to me?

    Thank you so much

I lost my love, the person who knew me the best, my best friend, my dreams, hopes and future on January 29th, 2011. The love of my life-dead in a crack house in Chicago. The worst day of my life. Although we knew he was close to the end because the “addict” was always in him, his liver was tired & so was he, it didn’t soften the blow when it actually happened. I knew all along there was no future with an addict but couldn’t convince my heart the same. Left behind, one 21 year old daughter, 2 grandbabies & one person who would go to the end of the Earth for him. Oh, and once again, left behind, the financial aspect-seeing as though he left the responsibility of that on his family.
I am curious if there is anything I can assist with in the program? I would like to possibly volunteer or just assist with anything? In memory of my love, Dan.
    Thank you,
